Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweets Jason Bay finalizing deal

December 5th, 2012 by terrybenish

Seven figures he says.

Heyman is the best out there right now.

The Mets earlier Figginsed Bay (thanks for Dave Cameron for the new verb) to the tune of $21 million. So he gets more on top of that to come here.

In the last three seasons with 1,124 plate appearances he’s had 24 home runs. Posted OPS for 2010 of .745, 2011 of .703 and 2012 of .536. He’s had concussions in 2010 and 2012 and broken ribs in between in 2011, apparently from running in to the left field fence.

The Mets are an absolutely terrible. They scored a few more runs than the Mariners. How can he help us but not them? Chone Figgins had an OPS of .533. Bay’s is identical to Figgins.

Bay seems to combine Figgins talent with Gutierrez’s availability. He can’t play and spends most of his time on dl. Here he will be close to family, so it is nice the Ms accommodated him.

This is one of the more cynical moves I’ve seen in some time.
