Dave Cameron on bologna laden offers

November 28th, 2012 by terrybenish

It is a short piece with its focus on the Napoli and Martin offers or pseudo offers.

He characterized even the Napoli trip here as an effort to use the Mariners as a stalking horse against the Red Sox pursuit of Napoli.

Martin for a one year versus three years when it is not in the Mariner’s interest to sign him beyond a year, despite the player’s interest in a longer deal.

The Mariners might be doing something or setting it up to do at the winter meeting. It is not necessarily with these guys any longer, nor are there any indications or hints about those potential deals or free agent signings.

Were I to put probabilities on this I would say there are no big time players beyond Napoli that the Mariners seem to be after. Their revenue declined again last year and they finished in last place with a group of young players. They moved the fences in for next year and bught a TV. Christmas is coming. There might be some small stuff occur and most likely there will be a starting pitcher signed, so let us be patient and watch.
