Chone Figgins nearly gone, mostly gone

November 20th, 2012 by terrybenish

Chone Figgins was designated for assignment which gives the team ten days to change their mind, release him, trade him or send him to minor leagues whereupon he could seek his release. Greg Johns has a great full blown story. link below.

Spring training phenom Vinnie Catricala was added as was AFL team mates Bobby Lafromboise. Brandon Maurer a right handed starting pitcher was too. Lastly Julio Morban was added a soon to be 21 year old left handed outfielder who showed some juice at high desert last summer. Maurer is a right handed starting pitcher that had a great year at AA Jackson. Not as heralded as others he is talented.

John’s story shows who is now on it. Lots of talent still not required to be there. Spring training might cause some adjustments if younger guys make it.

So far nobody has jumped up and signed Miguel Olivo and it will be interesting to see if Figgins will get snapped up as well.

Lastly the quality of reader that will shoot comments has taken an upturn. Will wonders never cease? an anonymous guy whose name was some sort of hare reference had a literary reference to a character in William Goldman’s:

A Princess Bride

Wow!

No way that is a cougar.

In my humble opinion Figgins will not get “snapped up”. It is always sad to see a previously productive player decline so quickly and even sadder that M’s brass did not bother to research this, I mean come on guys you really did not see what the Angles already knew? Also sad to see Travon Robinson get traded, but something had to give. The M’s gave him several good opportunities but he just did not pan out.

    Hi Stan, thanks for writing!

Most of deep numbers that Figgins has amassed, suggest that his bat speed has declined and his selectivity. His babip the past two years has been 100 points below is mid career numbers. Not much there any more.

Trayvon can’t hit at this level and his arm is the worst I’ve ever seen. That they got something back is nearly amazing.
