Free agent predictions

Jason Churchill and Chris Crawford of Prospect Insider (PI) weigh in on where they believe the high end prospects will land. Crawford is part of the stable of writers for PI and Jason is PI.

Jason suggests the Ms will get Ryan Dempster who pitched this past year for first the Cubs and then the Rangers. He had an OPS against of .586 for the Cubs and after the trade for Texas he presented an .807 which sucks mostly. He is a sort of a thumber that has to have perfect location and he is right handed.

Jason Vargas has same kind of stuff, but posted a much better number .714, almost exactly the previous year, although he gave up more extra base hits. When the fences come in Vargas may turn into Dempster right in front of us.

Chris Crawford leaped in and picked Josh Hamilton. Hope he is right. Links below.

On early morning notes, JP Morosi of FoxSports (this years winner of the makeup award) says the Mariners are after Kevin Youkilis. He plays third, first or dh and is going to be 34 years old next season. He had the worst year of his career last year, the first sub .800 OPS ever. The Mariners have Kyle Seager at 3b, Jesus Montero at dh and Justin Smoak at 1b. Signing Youk wold be interesting. Seager is the best player in organization now. Lots of politics tied up in the success of Montero and Smoak, which translates to untouchable. The argument would be that Smoak and Montero project better. Smoak no, Montero maybe. Seager is way further along as hitter and improving, but he is not the product of a trade that if he fails like those two have, make the GM look bad.
