There Is Something Rotten In Sodo
October 17th, 2012 by terrybenishIn the last week Art Thiel, the doyenne of Northwest sport’s media types has written a couple of pieces that suggest they are linked.
The first was the powder puff piece where Howard Lincoln answered questions about the fans being so stupid they could not figure out that Lincoln was our own personal Dick Dastardly or Dick Nixon and damn them for suggesting he’s evil and rotten and bad for Seattle, Mariners and Sonics included.
So more recently it turns out that the Union for the Port of Seattle Longshoremen is going to sue Hansen and the city and county about the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) that allows the Arena process to advance. Well suing anybody is a lengthy and time consuming process that costs a bunch of money and the union is probably on shaky grounds to pursue the strategy and spend its member’s money.
No problem, because up steps a lawyer, Peter Goldmark, who says he’ll work for free.
Realllly?
He says he thinks its vitally important that SODO sustains its industrial character. This out of the mouth of an environmental lawyer. Let’s further pollute an area is what he’s saying? Rather than clean it up?
The Port of Seattle as it’s configured is a dodo bird that has been losing jobs for quite a while, to Port of Tacoma, Port of Longview, Port of Portland. The stadium does not interfere with their traffic now or later.
The other part is Goldmark working for free for this cause of Industrial Seattle. I know about Pro-Bono work and it’s something firms do to redress their financial success. I suspect that maybe some well heeled opponents of the Arena might make things a little easier for Goldmark as long as he doesn’t mention that he’s getting Mariner money. Or Blethen money.
