Politics And Gibberish
September 15th, 2012 by terrybenishThe Mariners were close through seven last night on a very good start by Hisashi Iwakuma, only to have Ackley commit an error while reliever Stephen Pryor was pitching and he got lit up like an Arturo Fuentes straight from Havana. Earlier Seager had made an error when he tried to complete a 5-3 double play and slipped on the third base bag and bounced the throw to Carp. Carp had already gone into his stretch and could not adjust and pick the ball.
So just to keep up with September Carp has got a .697 OPS, which is mostly a .381 onbag and not much power. Seager has 1.030 OPS hitting on all cylinders. Then you have Ackley who’s got a mini-streak going but only has a .619 OPS going and we got Smoak coming in at 0.526.
Tonight Carp sits. Smoak is in and has a hit. Ackley has a bomb, his second this week, Saunders has a triple coming off a bomb last night and Seager is 1-2 after collecting two doubles last night.
Smoak’s not the guy.
Manager Wedge pontificated post game last night and pre-game tonight regarding the errors as the reason for Pryor getting hammered last night. That was/is gibberish. If you can only get your fastball over you’re in trouble. One error or not.
