Messing With Players Heads Or How To Waste A Month

September 9th, 2012 by terrybenish

The Mariners scored four runs in a three game series getting swept by the As. The second half
sees the Ms trade Ichiro, trade for Eric Thames and generally play good, winning baseball for two months.

On his day off on Thursday apparently Wedge either walked into a low hanging pipe sort of a self beaning incident as it were. Or Jack Zduriencik says play these guys now…the results are the same.

The best hitter by far on the Mariners is John Jaso. Unfortunately he is the only player, other than the horrible Smoak left from the Cliff Lee rent a player trade and he’s not sexy enough for Zduriencik to hang his hat on. On bag right between .390 and .400, decent power. He went 3-6 this weekend after going 2-4 Friday night, giving way to Miguel Olivo who actually dh’d Saturday. Faithful readers will rejoin that Brett Anderson was pitching on Saturday, to which I say Olivo is a nice guy, but he sucks and it is passed time that he goes away. Jaso gets a shot against lefties I think. Jaso has a higher onbag against lefties than Olivo, it’s just madness.

Gutie bats first or second in all three games, did nothing. It seems Wedge has discovered that Ackley is not hitting very well. So having jerked guys from here to there, it’s his turn. Zduriencik says Smoak gets a chance to work out his inability to hit. He goes 0 for a couple of games and Carp plays today and gets a hit.

So here is the real deal, Gutie, Olivo, Smoak have nothing to do with team’s future success. Jaso should, Carp might given market realities and Ackley well Ackley needs to hire Bard’s brother to get better this winter.

I was and will write about the use of the starting pitchers versus relief pitchers in a soon to come piece, the theme being Wedge has left guys in games too long. Not done with work, something to look for…

BREAKING NEWs or TRENDING On Cougar Madness:

The peripatetic Jim Moore unable to find anything worth saying about the Cougars victory over a high school team, instead calls for the firing of Husky coach Steve Sarkisian. There were no substantiated reports of Whack-a-mole Leach kicking Cougar quarterback Jeff Tuel. Every reporter in Eastern Washington is an alum of WSU, so it will be hard to track this down.
