Who’s Head On Block? Lincoln On Road With Team UPDATED!!July 6th, 2012 by terrybenish
Baker at 4:30 tweets that Howard Lincoln says he is at the game because he grew up in Oakland.
Wants to see if he should fire Zduriencik, not Ichiro for sure. Might be worth watching.
Earlier Geoff Baker went off on unspecified Mariners for their lack of support for the teams that were in contention in 2011 and 2009. Cites the example of Orioles trading rookie league players for Jim Thome. The Jim Thome that is hitting .211 for the Orioles with no power and while a certain Hall of Famer, is now 41 and can’t play every day.
The implication is that without specifics he calls out Zduriencik for not buttressing the team by trades during the middle of the year by trading prospects. I have to say and I’m supposed to be collegial when I write this and not say that I think there are motives of the writers or the paper or that the guy is just completely missing what is going on.
Yeah well here I go, again. They trade their prospects for a rent a player to complement what? Ichiro, Olivo, Figgins, Ryan, Milton Bradley, Ryan Langerhans? Ryan can pick it and he’s about the only one worth keeping. The team is scoring more runs this year than it did the last two years. It is not the veterans, this year the pitching is far worse than last year so you got to ask why make that trade now? What are you going to get?
So for the past couple of weeks lots of hyper critical stuff from the Times largely critical of Zduriencik. It is virtually a campaign like the ludicrous orchestrated anti-arena effort by the executive editor of the Times David Boardman. One can speculate that the ownership of the Times, the Blethen family are behind this. Who knows, they rarely come out of the shadows.
