Wedge Anoints Figgins

February 19th, 2012 by terrybenish

Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times reports today that Son Of Chuck announces that Chone Figgins
will be the leadoff hitter, or will announce same, and he will play 3b everyday or most days.

It was going to Mexico and playing winter baseball to get his game ironed out that made this happen.

What? He did not play winter baseball, not in Mexico or even Australia. It was the head to head competition this spring? That has not happened yet.

Baker says wait for official announcement in a couple of days. Maybe Woodenhead Jr. is playing Spy Vs Spy and Baker just flunked.

Can’t you pitcher the meeting, Woodenhead, Zduriencik and Woodenhead, Jr. talking about Figgins, “Are you aware that we have to pay him $9 million each of the last two years? Why did you ever sign him?

Z talks back, “I signed him to be the lead off hitter and I was going to move Ichiro to bad third and you told me I couldn’t…”

Son of Chuck chimes in, “I’ll bat Ichiro second or third, no problem.”

Z says, “He sucked last year.”

Woodenhead says, “Do it! Damn it!”

Z says, “Ok…I had a class in high school, had to read a book by Mark Twain about Tom Sawyer…he gets people to paint this fence for him…maybe if we play him in spring training people will trade for him if he shows anything.”

Woodenhead, “Really?”

Z says, “Anything is possible.” Rolling his eyes. “His feelings have been hurt.”

Woodenhead, “What do you mean his feelings have been hurt? His feelings have been hurt, he’s making $9 million, his feelings,” voice breaks.

Son of Chuck, “Well, Ichiro, he umm, umm, well I’d like to bat him 9th!”

Woodenhead, “What is wrong with you? We have three Ichiro bobble-head doll days in the first month, alone. Don’t you know anything about baseball?”

Zster says, “We’re off point here…”Ok, Chuck we will give it a whirl. Wedgie, practice starts in ten minutes…” fade out…

What on earth are you writing about? A nighmare you had last night? This is not real. Travon is the clear lead off hitter of the future for this franchise. Starting Figgins anywhere goes against current philosophy being pitched in those silly commercials they are wasting money on.

Stan, thanks for writing. I did pinch myself. But humor is a subjective thing.

Figgins is the deal. According to both Times
beat writers, check it out in Times.

    Robinson will play in Tacoma.

Good writing Terry. I am still flabergasted. If Chone doesn’t melt like ice cream during the spring training trial, which he would figure to put up a better than .220 average, he will certainly not last to May. The M’s will quickly switch to Ichiro, not my first choice or will make the bold move & bring up Travon. The kid is the real deal, Chone is done in Seattle. Just my humble opinion.

Hi Stan, When unjuiced players cruise into the spring training dock at the age of 34 after two abysmal seasons, blaming an unfamiliar spot in the lineup and different positions played it is time to be skeptical. As a general statement, players break down fairly fast, falling over a waterfall fast many times. Hardly ever do they reverse that movement.

The weird thing in all this, is almost without being said or commented upon, he quit last year and the year before if he’s to have any credibility in coming back.

The numbers suggest he is now without talent.

Robinson got some glasses. He needs to hit a bunch and take walks…to catch their eye again.

The whole thing looks like they’re fearful of fans falling off, based on winning. The back story floating around unconfirmed is the team is for sale. Nobody will go on record, but there it is.

The new owners can take on the risk of the rebuild etc. and dump the big contracts and worn out players and rebuild.

Interesting stuff Terry. I heard the for sale rumour also and that supposedly was the reason the M’s did not bid on any of the stud hitters this winter. Or could it be that we have just become the Oakland A’s North? I would not doubt attendance will continue to fall if the team does not produce a winning record soon, like April & May. Plus the fact that there have been some dumb moves (acquiring Bradly) that if they continue (Montero) fas are just going to stay home. Anyway a new spring is upon us and I firmly believe Robinson is going to be called up at some point this season and stick. Let us pray for both pitching & hitting this coming season.
