Salad-to-go shop expanding to Silverdale

Barely seven months after opening in Poulsbo, owners of a salad-to-go shop are planning a second location in Silverdale.

b0012681003-278298 Greens On Your Way founder Jenn Fredericksen signed a lease Friday on the 9517 Silverdale Way space recently vacated by Genuine Burgers.

Fredericksen plans to sell her grab-and-go gourmet salads at the shop, along with wraps, pita sandwiches, soups, smoothies and espresso.

The new location could open in October.

“Hopefully Silverdale will be a good spot for us,” Fredericksen said.

Fredericksen, who also owns latte stands in North Kitsap, opened the first Greens On Your Way in February on Poulsbo’s Viking Avenue.

b0012681071-45912 The business applies the coffee stand model to fresh-made salads, allowing drivers to grab packaged greens on the go. The shop encourages customers to pre-order their salads online, further streamlining sales.

Fredericksen said the concept caught on in Poulsbo, despite the shop being located on the edge of town.

“The feedback has been great,” she said.

The Silverdale Way space doesn’t have a drive-thru, but Fredericksen said two parking stalls will be designated as drive up spaces, where customers can have salads delivered to their car window.

Bainbridge pizzeria featured on Forbes

That’s A Some Pizza owner Will Grant told Solomon about the importance of maintaining quality service in a fast-paced environment, and how Yelp reviews used to keep him up at night.

Grant also recalled the time his Winslow Way shop received a barrage of prank phone calls from Green Bay Packers fans, all ordering cheese pizzas.

Corner Bakery opening in Silverdale as part of Washington expansion

Corner-Bakery-Cafe-Counter-View A Corner Bakery Cafe opening in Silverdale on Aug. 1 will be the second Washington location for the rapidly-growing chain.

The cafe will open in a space near the entrance to The Trails at Silverdale shopping center.

Corner Bakery’s menu includes pastries, hot breakfasts, sandwiches, soups, paninis, salads and pastas. Food is made to order and served at tables. Online ordering and catering also are available.

Unknown According to the release, the first 100 customers who visit the shop on opening day will receive a free travel mug with free coffee refills for a year, and have the chance to win free panini and pancakes for a year. The shop opens at 7 a.m. Aug. 1.

The Silverdale Corner Bakery Cafe is owned by franchise group Northwest Corner, LLC., according to a news release.

Northwest Corner opened the first Corner Bakery in Washington in Tukwila earlier this year, and plans establish 16 in the state.

“We’re thrilled to introduce Corner Bakery Cafe’s fresh, flavorful food to the West Sound community,” Jayson Levich with Northwest Corner said in the release. “Corner Bakery Cafe serves the kind of food people will crave after they try it.”

Founded in 1991, Corner Bakery has about 200 locations nationwide. The Dallas-based chain was purchased by an Atlanta private equity firm in 2011, according to its website.

MOD Pizza opens Sunday at The Trails

MOD Pizza will be the next restaurant up and running in The Trails at Silverdale, with a grand opening planned for noon Sunday.

The first 52 people in line will receive a free pizza or salad, and be entered to win free pizza for a year, according to a news release. MOD will donate all proceeds from pizza sales on its first day to the Paul Linder Educational Foundation, which supports Central Kitsap School District.

The Seattle-based, “made-on-demand” pizza chain was founded in 2008 and has grown in bounds. The company tripled its store count in 2015 and plans to grow to from 110 to 190 stores this year, according to Puget Sound Business Journal.

Permitting documents indicate a Jersey Mike’s Subs is also headed for The Trails, though I haven’t confirmed that with the chain. Chipotle opened in the Greaves Way development last Saturday.

Farm Kitchen is phasing out its popular First Saturday breakfasts

Farm Kitchen’s First Saturday Breakfast is a monthly tradition for many North Kitsap residents. This spring, that tradition will come to a close.

Farm Kitchen announced this week it will discontinue its popular monthly breakfasts after May.

Co-owner Anne Thatcher said Farm Kitchen’s other ventures are blossoming and they no longer have the energy and resources to keep the breakfasts going.

“It’s just time to close that chapter in our business,” Thatcher said.

Thatcher and co-owner Hollis Fay began offering breakfasts at the Port Gamble Road farmyard 17 years ago. These days the event draws as many as 400 guests each month.

“The hard part is how very much we’ll miss seeing all our regulars on a regular basis,” Thatcher said. “That’s the sad thing to us.”

The final two breakfasts will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, April 2 and May 7. No reservations needed.

Breakfast regulars can still find Farm Kitchen fare at coffee shops and cafés in the area (there’s a listing here). The farm also rents out a commercial kitchen, and hosts weddings and other events.

Thatcher said its possible Farm Kitchen will offer occasional breakfasts in the future. You can check the the business’s page on Facebook for updates.
