Harrison foundation names executive director

Harrison Medical Center Foundation has selected Barbara James to serve as the organization’s executive director.

James joined the foundation on July 11, according to a news release.

Her primary focus will be raising money for Harrison Medical Center, including the new Silverdale hospital campus.

“Barbara will be a vital member of our Harrison Medical Center Foundation team,” David Schultz, market president of the CHI Franciscan Peninsula Region said in the release.

“We are excited that she has agreed to lead the Harrison Foundation team as we embark on a major fundraising campaign for the hospital.”

James has more than 25 years of leadership experience with public and private organizations, supporting social and child services, education and health care.

She most recently served as director of philanthropy for the Franciscan Foundation, where she led $3.5 million capital campaign for an upgrade of the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.

James replaces former foundation director Stephanie Cline, who now works with MultiCare.

Molina will cover virtual urgent care

CHI Franciscan Health, parent company of Harrison Medical Center, recently extended its virtual urgent care service to Kitsap County. 

Each virtual visit costs $35, a fee not covered by health plans, at least until this month.

9730473231_c67d3d4aee_kMolina Healthcare announced March 4 it will begin covering the urgent care service for its Medicaid (Apple Health) clients who are already established with a CHI Franciscan primary care provider.

Franciscan and Molina estimated 16,000 members will gain access to free online urgent care.

“Establishing a partnership with Molina to cover Virtual Urgent Care is a big step forward for CHI Franciscan Health and for the virtual health care industry as a whole,” CHI Franciscan Chief Medical Officer Mark Adams said in a news release.

CHI Franciscan launched the virtual urgent care in September 2013 and extended the service to Kitsap in January. About 200 patients per month use the online portal.

Franciscan Medical Group names president

Michael Marshall, MDA new president and chief medical officer was announced Thursday for Franciscan Medical Group, CHI Franciscan’s network of clinics, physicians and providers.

The Tacoma-based medical group hired Dr. Michael Marshall, who most recently served as president of Allina Health Clinics and senior vice president of Allina Health, in Minnesota. His first day with CHI Franciscan is Feb. 23, according to a news release.

Marshall is one of several new executives to join CHI Franciscan and Harrison this winter. David Schultz started began his duties as Harrison president in December.

CHI Franciscan hired Ketul Patel as its CEO in December. He also starts Feb. 23.

CHI Franciscan and Harrison are affiliated with Catholic Health Initiative of Colorado.
