New Admiral Manor owner wants to help ‘revitalize’ Bremerton

B0012880399--834114As we reported in our Friday paper, tenants of the Admiral Manor apartments in Bremerton are being evicted by a new ownership group, which plans to renovate the complex.

The property was bought at the end of January by Project S12 LLC., an affiliate of The Stratford Company in Seattle.

Nobody at Stratford responded to my requests for comment before our print deadline Thursday, but I did receive an email from CEO George Webb on Friday.

This was Webb’s statement on changes at Admiral Manor:

“We are planning to make significant and necessary improvements to the property. We believe this will be a benefit to the community and are excited to help revitalize this part of the City.”

We’ll continue to follow this story. If you’re an Admiral Manor resident and want to discuss the situation, you can reach me at tad.sooter@kitsapsun.com or 360-475-3783.

  1. This is bs the admiral was the last apartment complex is bermerton that low income families could afford 1st it was the the chester ave apartments thin Westpark dose anyone really think more people living on the streets is good for bermerton thankfully my wife and i got out of Washington and moved to the Midwest where you can rent a a 3 bedroom mobile home for around 400 a month but i do miss Kitsap conty mabe one day we will be able to move back to the city that i was born and raised is

  2. I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN OTTUMWA IOWA MOVED TO KITSAP COUNTY IN 1965 AND RENT WAS NOT AS HIGH AS IT IS NOW THERE ARE TO MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO LIVE ON THE STREETS BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT AFFORD THE RENT TO LIVE IN A HOUSE ECT AND THATS TO BAD

  3. I moved to Kitsap County six years ago. If I’d have known the high cost of living here, you can bet I’d’ve headed for Tennessee. Or anyplace rural which didn’t cost an arm and a leg to move. Charging people who don’t even earn as much as the rent is criminal. I have some good neighbors, but I can’t say much for the rest of the county. All it is is GREED.

  4. Were these tenants actually evicted which would entail the company going to court to have them evicted, or were they given the 20 day notice that the company would not be renewing their leases? There is a HUGE difference if you know a bit about property management.

This is a private company, it is not necessarily their job to provide low income housing. Isn’t that the job of the county, the state, and the government?

Rental rates in Kitsap have certainly gone up, and the West Bremerton area does need some revitalization. I would not expect a private corporation to be penalized for raising their rental rate sand trying got make West Bremerton a better place. I know it’s not a popular opinion, but it’s reality.

    1. They were given 20 day notice that their tenancy was being terminated. All the units are month-to-month from my understanding.

  5. The rent was cheap because the facility was run-down, bed-bug infested, and in the words of one of the tenants in the original article “sketchy”. A developer is going to put a significant amount of money into improving the property and everybody here seems to be upset that rent would go up? You cant have it both ways people!

  6. I know that rents are high, thats everywhere…not just in Kitsap County. I am truly sad that these folks have little time to transition to different housing. However…..So the new owners can offer housing…that meets…better than…basic housing quality standards…Improvements will need to be met. I’m lucky to have been in my home (rental) for as long as I have (with no rental increase) or I also would be homeless. Cost of living is rediculous. Hope tha the state listens to housing concerns….and that people help…to make the needs known…

  7. And it doesn’t help that all the new apartments being built in Bremerton now are only being built to attract Seattle workers here. Who in Bremerton can afford to pay $800 for a studio apartment in the new 606 building?

  8. I am a former tenant at admiral manor and as the saying goes the new regime is usually worst than the last. The new owners may be making improvements but they are not tenant friendly. I have never in my life had to pay a 50, 20 or even a ten dollar fee just to pay my rent on time. They want almost no contact with the tenants and I can’t see them filling the units anytime soon. Don’t rent unless you want to be screwed in every way legally possible. They should burn or tear down this complex.
