I'm Paulla Santos and I am the Senior Drum Major of the SKHS Marching Band. Our main goal is to just make the top ten because then from there, it is all up to the judges. People have suggested to KZOK to allow the top bands to perform live in front of them so the contest would purely be judged on the music rather than visual effects and other distractions. I would assume that would be the fairest determination of the winners. As of the prize money, Mr. Grams and the drum majors have discussed, if we do end up winning any money, that we will donate it to the community during our participation in Relay For Life this coming spring. The community has supported us on getting to the Tournament of Roses Parade and it is only just for us to show them our gratitude. Of course if we do not place in the competition, we will still be participating in the event and raising money any way we can.

Awesome!

I am so proud of the South Kitsap High School Marching Band. Each of those band members worked very hard and each represented our community with pride, spirit, and enthusiasm!

They were praised not only for their music and art, but also for their exceptional behavior and good manners. The world heard their music and saw them as terrific performers. I had the pleasure of watching them be regular teenagers with incredible discipline, uncommon grace during challenges, and as great individuals as well as an inspiring marching machine! If they are the faces of our future, we have much good to look forward to in our old age. ;-)

Congratulations to them. Congratulations to their families.

Dang and here I was hoping that we could head down to the famous "Sev" and pick up some big gulps and soak in some Bremerton culture before watching. I could show you where the much anticipated Fish Art will go. Maybe next time. LOL!

I understand, Steve.

I was born in Missouri, which is home to White Castle Burgers. Every time we would return to Missouri to visit my grandparents, we would have a White Castle night, where one of the adults made a run to White Castle and brought home several boxes of them. Then we all sat around my grandfather's living room (my most favorite room in their really cool brick house), caught up, my grandpa told stories about his life in Greece, and we ate White Castle burgers. I can't ever remember the TV being on at my grandparents. Grandpa's stories were better than TV.

Can't go to the Midwest without making a White Castle Burger run. When I was a kid, I could eat a dozen. These days, four is the absolute limit.

White Castle still has the greatest food on earth because it has such fond memories attached in my mind. Oh... the White Castle fries were good too. ;-) They say that smell is the best trigger for memory. Maybe that is why I go out of my way to make a stop when I'm in the area. Parents, grandparents, and most relatives have long passed away. But the burgers and the memories are still good.

Thanks for saving the DVR for me (I need to get one of those). I was able to watch it at another friend's house the other night.

They were spectacular!

I can't dispute the comments about the fries. They are made from real potatoes. I like them, but it's the burger that I rave about. I like the shakes, too, but still it's about the burger.

Where I grew up is adjacent to Baldwin Park, so In-N-Out was never too far a drive for us. I'm like many, however, in that I didn't really appreciate In-N-Out until I moved away from California. I am glad they are closer. If you really want one the closest is in Redding, but I think the consummate In-N-Out experience is in the San Gabriel Valley, within eyesight of a palm tree, in the warm afternoon sun and smog.

I started with ABC and noticed that their coverage of the bands at the beginning of the parade was really sparse. They focused more on the floats and pop up historical facts about the Rose Parade. The commercials seemed never ending.

Thanks to a heads up from Kathryn, I knew that SK would be around the number 60 participant mark. So I started surfing around channels. I found HGTV within a couple of minutes and discovered that they were commercial free so I stuck with them and was REALLY glad I did.

Within seconds of SK Band appearance on the screen with the banner at the bottom showing their name and hometown, I paused the coverage took a screen shot of the TV screen and emailed it to Kathryn down on the parade route. She emailed me back within a few seconds with a pic of the band marching from her location. It was a rather surreal multi-media moment.

One of the announcers on HGTV, Rob Weller is from the Bremerton area. He made several comments about Port Orchard, PSNS and Bremerton. It was great coverage. One of the other announcers mentioned that she thought the uniforms on the band looked great.

Kathryn, I still have the coverage of the band on my DVR. Let me know if you want to stop by and watch it.

I watched on ABC. I just flipped on the first station I came to that had coverage of the parade. It was disappointing to have them cut away right when the band appeared. The announcer made a comment about there being a connection to the Beatles and then cut to a commercial before mentioning what the connection was. I waited to see the band when the show returned, but it had passed and they were showcasing a float.

But, since it's taped somewhere, I'll look for it. Thank you.
