This blog’s for you
Thursday, September 10th, 2009Welcome to the League of Women Voters of Kitsap’s new blog.
We’re a grassroots organization that grew out of the drive that
brought women the right to vote almost 90 years ago. We’re strictly
nonpartisan; we do not endorse candidates for office at any level
of government. At the same time, we are wholeheartedly political.
We take positions on issues after study and consensus by our
members and work to influence lawmakers through lobbying and
advocacy.
Although the word “women” is in our name, we have many male members and encourage men to join.
We’re known for registering voters and sponsoring forums to let people know more about candidates running for office. This year we don’t have the excitement of a big presidential race, but we do have many important local elections for school board, city councils, mayors and port commissioners.
Our local League sponsored four forums during the primary season this year and has eight more coming up before the general election Nov. 3. We welcome the public to attend and bring plenty of questions for the candidates.
If you like finding out about your community, studying the issues, and knowing the candidates, we hope you will consider joining the League. For information, check out our Web site: www.lwvwa.org/kitsap or e-mail membership chair Pam Hamon at pchamon@msn.com.
And please do attend our forums. The first one is for Bremerton School Board candidates and is coming up Sept. 21 at the Norm Dicks Government Center in downtown Bremerton.
