Newsweek released its annual list of the top high schools in the country. Area schools on the list are Central Kitsap High School at #323 and Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor at #1451.

Thirty-four Washington high school made the list. To see the whole list and the story check here.

At #323 CKHS stayed in the same general area it’s been since 2003, when it debuted on the list at #436. At #1451 Peninsula has fallen a bit since it first appeared on the list in 2006.

The rankings are compiled by Washington Post education reporter Jay Matthews and a lot of the “formula” hinges on the number of AP classes students take and pass. Numbers of free and reduced lunch students are also taken into account.
