I’m working on a story this week about graduating high school seniors and asking whether their future plans have changed based on the economic downturn. Maybe your college fund has taken a financial hit and you’re delaying further education for awhile? Or maybe your parents have had their work hours scaled back and can’t help you out with tuition as promised? Or maybe you’ve decided on a different major that will make you more employable in four years?
Leave a comment on this blog entry or email me at kitsapeducation@yahoo.com to let me know how we can get in touch. I’ve talked to some seniors but would love to chat with a few more. Thanks so much.

I still plan on becoming a TV Meteorologist/Majoring in broadcasting but after high school I am going to work a year at Dr. Naumann/Johnson Orthodontics to save up as much money as I can so I can have enough money to not only support college but a church mission as well (which I will serve next summer)
My parents and I have agreed to split the cost of the $10,000 mission so that makes it a lot easier for me AND my parents. I hope after my mission I can apply for enough scholarships to decrease how much I will spend at college (the college I plan to attend, by the way, is BYU-ID for my bachelors, and BYU-Provo or Lyndon State College in VT for my broadcasting/communuications degree)
This was a long way of saying: I’m working a whole year AND going on a mission before I am going to school. Yeah it is delaying how soon I graduate from college, but in these times I need to make sure I work hard and earn as much money as I can before I head out on my own. I’m just grateful my parents have willingly been helping me in the process so it isn’t such a burden on my shoulders.

Well, when I head off to WSU this fall, my plans will remain the same they have been for the past year. Although the economy has affected my education (mainly in the form of a large tuition increase, thanks to Gregoire) my general plans and ambitions are steady. I feel confident that by the time I am ready to enter the workforce four years from now the economy will be ready to accept me. 25 years ago, when father first went to college, the economy was in the tank, but It had straightened out during his time at school.

Matt and Tyler… you give me hope that even with our currently broken and nearly bankrupt education system, we can still turn out well educated, practical and fiscally responsible individuals who are heading out into the shark infested waters of the real world. Good luck guys!
Matt, I will add you to my prayers for a safe and successful mission.
