Defiance Boats acquires iconic small-boat maker

Defiance Boats LLC of Bremerton has completed acquisition of Arima Marine International Inc., formerly of Auburn. The merger puts Defiance in the very-small recreational boat market and allows troubled Arima to continue.

My story will be at starting this evening, and in Friday’s Kitsap Sun.

  1. My family married into the Grandy Boat builders family of Bremeton / Seattle fame. The Grandy’s built the ‘Scooter’ class of 42 foot recreational boats so suited for Puget Sound Boating. I hope that Defiance continues the the Good Works of Arima Marine. The Grandy Boat Company pioneered the fiberglass plank type of construction that was used to build the self righting US Coast Guard vessels still in use today. Kitsap should be proud to keep this heritage afloat. Jack Lewis and Arra Grandy familly. (Jack is now retired in Hawaii)

  2. Always good to see small boat builders carrying on, to many going out of business since the economic downturn, hopefully some will be left when the more prosperous times return 🙂
