The stock market is advancing after the market’s worst week since
early July.
A rise was to be expected Monday after the stock market’s latest
rally stalled in response to disappointing housing and
manufacturing data. Investors are trying to decide whether it’s
wise to commit much money to the market while the economic recovery
looks more tentative.
Investors feel they got little direction over the weekend from
leaders of the Group of 20 nations, who said they would keep
stimulus plans.
In early minutes of trading, Dow Jones industrial average is up
42.10, or 0.4 percent, at 9,707.29. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index
is up 5.30, or 0.5 percent, at 1,049.68. The Nasdaq composite index
is up 13.11, or 0.6 percent, at 2,104.03.
