Facilities Honored
for Conservation
Three Kitsap facilities earned top Navy honors for conserving
energy and water.
Naval Base Kitsap, Naval Undersea Warfare Center-Keyport, and Puget
Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility have
been selected for 2009 Secretary of the Navy awards. They’re
presented each year to ships and facilities that have made notable
progress toward achieving Navy and federal goals for reducing
energy and water consumption.
Naval Base Kitsap was recognized in the Large Shore category.
Naval Undersea Warfare Center-Keyport took first place in the
Industrial category, and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and
Intermediate Maintenance Facility won the Platinum Level of
Achievement (first place) for commands with outstanding energy
programs and project execution.
Each command will receive money for future energy conservation
improvements for their efforts. Naval Base Kitsap and Keyport
became authorized to fly the Secretary of the Navy energy award
flag for one year.

Garage Opens
in Port Orchard
Port Orchard
Old School Garage, which specializes in collector, classic and
custom vehicles, has opened in the Port Orchard Industrial Park,
1410 Lumsden Road in South Kitsap.
Owner Joe Gjerstad is a 40-year veteran of the automotive industry
and will specialize in the care and maintenance of collector,
classic and custom vehicles, while welcoming all vehicles requiring
maintenance and repair. Buyers’ inspections and re-commissionings
for vehicles long in storage also will be offered.
For the past 20 years, Gjerstad was owner/lead technician of
Gilmour Automotive in Seattle. A Vietnam-era Navy veteran, serving
as an aircraft ground support equipment mechanic, Gjerstad spent
many years on professional auto racing circuits, including IMSA GT,
SCCA Can-Am and Trans-Am.

What: Port of Bremerton CEO Cary Bozeman will be featured at the
Sept. 23 North Mason Chamber of Commerce membership luncheon.
Topics could include the economic opportunities occurring around
and at the port that will directly affect North Mason. Other topics
could include SKIA, the cross-SKIA connector, the runway
improvements, auto racing, and the port’s three year action

Kathleen McKnight of the city of Bainbridge Island; Deborah Booher,

Michael B. Savage, an attorney and general management executive,
has been hired by Art Anderson Associates of Bremerton, a
Bremerton-based engineering services firm. He has more than 21
years of experience in his field and will support all aspects of
the firm’s marine and facilities engineering tasks and construction
management projects, as well as provide guidance on legal
matters.
Julie Hohenstein has been promoted to branch manager for Pacific
Northwest Title in its Bainbridge Island office. She has more than
18 years experience in her field and has been with Pacific
Northwest Title since June 2007. She formerly has been as an escrow
branch manager, an escrow closer and has served as a trainer for
both new employees and those just entering the business.
Johnnie L. Hawkins of Parker Mooers & Cena, CPAs of Silverdale,
recently passed the uniform exam for becoming a certified public
accountant. It is a 15-hour exam and covers all areas of accounting
and tax law. Hawkins is a graduate of the University of Washington.
His areas of specialization include individual and business
taxation and small business accounting including being a QuickBooks
Pro-Advisor. He has been with Parker Mooers & Cena for four
years.
