Mom, Daughter Team Up For Coffee, Yoga

BREMERTON
The plan, apparently, is to stretch upstairs and slurp downstairs.
Bremerton mom-and-daughter team Kath Mitchell and Winter Niemeyer recently opened Samudra Yoga Coffee Tea and Treats in the building next to Evergreen-Rotary Park that some may remember as Cafe Destino.
Yoga and coffee might seem like a strange combination to some, but it was a natural for her big family, said daughter Niemeyer, 27.
“For us, it was just two of our passions put together,” she said. The family’s been into yoga for a couple years, and when it comes to eating, “Our family’s obsessed with food. That’s all we do is eat and cook,” Winter said.
Upstairs, mom Mitchell, 50, a certified yoga instructor, and her staff will teach many forms and levels of yoga, starting at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, for the highly motivated. The less motivated may want to sign up for the “Stiff White Guys” class.
Winter will be downstairs, vending coffee concoctions that feature beans from Seattle roaster Caffe Vita, as well as a dozen varieties of tea.
And then there are the sweet and savory baked goods, like bacon-and-cheddar scones with green onion and pepper, which Winter calls “a family favorite.”
Along with the biscotti, muffins, cookies and cakes, there’ll be special offerings like vegan coconut-and-lime cupcakes and salted caramel cakes. Mitchell, when she’s not in the upstairs studio, will trade off on kitchen duties with two other bakers.
Winter says friendly neighbors from the Evergreen-Rotary Park area have been dropping by to lend their support.
The Mitchell/Niemeyer family has been helping, too, by preparing the space for the opening.
Winter’s husband, Silverdale dentist Jason Niemeyer, helped to wire a new sound system. Kath’s husband and Winter’s dad, longtime Belfair lumberyard owner Jeff Mitchell, helped build out the interior to the exact specifications of mom and daughter.
“Oh, man, the whole family is involved,” Winter said.
