Tacoma Port Layoffs Expected

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — The Port of Tacoma says it will have to lay off employees this year because of a decline in shipping.

Port Executive Director Tim Farrell told The News Tribune he didn’t have the number of jobs to be eliminated or a timeline. The port currently has 255 employees.

The staff was sent a memo Friday offering employees the option of leaving early.
