South Softball Wins in Extra Innings

JV call-up Charlene “Charlie” Brown had the game-winning hit against Wilson on Tuesday in Port Orchard. Until her at-bat in the ninth, she had been cheering on the varsity team from the stands. The Wolves won 7-6.

The Wolves battled back twice to take a 5-3 lead before Wilson tied the game at 5 and forced the extra innings. The Wolves improved to 8-1 in Narrows League Bridge Division play and are tied atop the standings with Wilson (8-1).

A Lap Around The Pool

Here’s an update on what some of our local swimmers have been up to as they look toward the state meet in Federal Way in two weeks. 

North Kitsap’s Bethany Aban has already qualified for the 3A meet in three events; the 100 backstroke (1:03.61), 100 fly (1:00.70) and 100 breast (1:11.51). The Vikings’ relays have also qualified for the West Central District meet at Hazen Pool in Renton Nov. 6-7. Bremerton’s Erin Wolnough qualified for the 3A district meet in the 500 free and 100 back.

Central Kitsap’s Liane Hirata will be heading to the 4A state meet after qualifying in the 100 back in 1:02.24. The 4A WCD meet begins Thursday with the diving finals at 4:30 p.m. at Foss HS. Swimming prelims are at 3 p.m. Friday at Rogers HS with the finals at 4 p.m. on Saturday

The Narrows League championship, held over the weekend, saw several CK and SK swimmers qualify for district. You can read about that here

The 2A WCD meet will at Olympic High School, Nov. 7. The meet begins with the diving prelims and the finals starting at 12:30 p.m., followed by swimming finals at 4 p.m.
