of Friday’s game between Seattle Prep and Glacier Peak.
Storyline: Central Kitsap, which finished third in the Narrows
League 3A, is looking to go to state for the first time since
making it three straight years from 2007-09. The Cougars lost to
Roosevelt in the state preliminary round last season. … Central
Kitsap quarterback Tyler Tubbs, a first-year starter, has completed
83 of 144 passes for 980 yards with eight touchdowns and 10
interceptions. Tubbs’ top target is the man he replaced at
quarterback, Kaleb Bates, who leads CK in receiving with 26 catches
for 415 yards and six touchdowns. Alika Sarono leads all West Sound
players with five interceptions … Ballard finished second in the
Metro League, falling to defending state champion Eastside Catholic
40-3 in the title game. Beavers quarterback Davine Tullis has
passed for 1,522 yards with three touchdowns and four
interceptions. He’s also rushed for 814 yards and eight scores.
Olympic (9-0) vs. Steilacoom (5-5)
What:
Class 2A West Central District tournament game
When: Saturday, 7:15 p.m.
Where: Silverdale Stadium
What’s at stake: The winner advances to state and plays the winner
of Friday’s game between Sedro-Woolley and Lynden.
Storyline: Olympic, the No. 7 team in the latest 2A state poll,
knocked off North Kitsap 17-14 in the Olympic League 2A title game
last week. It’s the Trojans’ first league title since 2007. Olympic
is looking for its second consecutive state berth. The Trojans lost
in the first round to Ellensburg last year. Logan Madison leads the
Trojans in rushing with 559 yards and six touchdowns, but Geordyn
Shinard has been the man moving the chains lately. Shinard, who
plays running back/fullback and also starts at linebackers, has
rushed for 247 yards and four touchdowns the last two weeks. Matt
Becker is a dual-threat quarterback with 1,056 passing yards and
377 rushing yards. He has 21 combined touchdowns. Out of Olympic’s
nine regular season opponents, six made the postseason. The
Trojans’ defense has posted five shutouts and allowed just 34
points. … Steilacoom, the fourth seed out of the SPSL 2A, knocked
off Kingston 47-7 in a district play-in game on Tuesday.
Quarterback Anthony Leiato has 1,301 passing yards, 547 rushing
yards and 21 combined touchdowns.
North Kitsap (6-3) vs. Fife (7-2)
What:
Class 2A West Central District tournament game
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Where: Fife Memorial Stadium
What’s at stake: The winner advances to state and plays the winner
of Saturday’s game between Lindbergh and River Ridge.
Storyline: North Kitsap, which finished second in the Olympic
League 2A, qualified for state last year. The Vikings fell in the
first round to Hockinson. Linebacker Bob Evans, last year’s OL
defensive MVP has 111 tackles, including 71 solo. Christian Tom
leads all West Sound players with five sacks. Running back Sean
Crowell, who also starts in the secondary, is the Vikings’ leading
rusher with 602 yards and six touchdowns. Quarterback Chris Andrews
has completed 51 of 91 passes for 747 yards with 11 touchdowns and
three interceptions. … Fife, the No. 2 seed out of the SPSL 2A, is
led by running back Tanner Knapp, who’ll play baseball at Seattle
University. Knapp is over 1,000 yards for the season and averages
close to nine yards per carry.
Klahowya (6-3) vs. Charles Wright (2-6)
What:
Class 1A West Central District tournament game
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Where: Charles Wright Academy
What’s at stake: The winner advances to state. Seeding is dependent
on the outcome of the other two district tournament games.
Storyline: Klahowya finished behind Port Townsend in second place
in the Olympic League 1A for the second straight season. The Eagles
have only been to state once, in 2004, losing to Elma. This is the
third playoff appearance in school history. Quarterback George
Harris is one of three West Sound quarterbacks who has passed for
1,000 yards this season. He’s at 1,391 yards with nine touchdowns
and eight interceptions. Tyler Vandergriff leads Klahowya with 91
tackles. … Charles Wright made state last year, upsetting Port
Townsend 24-14 after losing to PT 49-6 the previous week. The
Tarriers boast dynamic quarterback Henry Cheney, who threw eight
touchdowns in one game earlier this season against Vashon
Island.
Port Townsend (9-0) vs. Bellevue Christian
(4-5)
What: Class 1A West Central District tournament game
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Where: Port Townsend HS
What’s at stake: The winner advances to state. Seeding is dependent
on the outcome of the other two district tournament games.
Storyline: Port Townsend won the Olympic League 1A title for the
second straight year. The Redhawks haven’t been to state since
2004. PT lost to Charles Wright in a district game last season. …
Bellevue Christian, the No. 3 seed out of the Nisqually League, has
only had a football program for five seasons. The Vikings are
looking for their first state berth.
Chimacum (2-7) vs. Cascade Christian (7-1)
What: Class 1A West Central District tournament game
When: Saturday, 7 p.m.
Where: Sunset Chev Stadium, Sumner
What’s at stake: The winner advances to state. Seeding is dependent
on the outcome of the other two district tournament games.
Storyline: Chimacum earned the No. 3 seed out of the Olympic League
1A by winning a tiebreaker game against Coupeville. Chimacum’s
victory over Coupeville in October snapped an 18-game losing
streak. The Cowboys last made it to state in 2005. … Cascade
Christian is the defending 1A state champion.
