SK to dedicate baseball field to Elton GoodwinMarch 15th, 2014 by Annette Griffus
South Kitsap will dedicate its baseball field in honor of its late Hall of Fame coach Elton Goodwin prior to Saturday’s 1 p.m. game against Decatur.
It will be called the Elton Goodwin Memorial Field. The Wolves will also retire Goodwin’s jersey No. 29 during pre-game ceremonies.
Goodwin guided the Wolves to state championships in 1983, 1996 and 2003. He retired following the 2003 season. He died in November of 2013. He was 63.
An event to raise money for a scoreboard and the Elton Goodwin Foundation will be held April 10 at McCormick Woods Golf Course. Hosted by the Kitsap Athletic Roundtable, ex-SK player and Mariner Willie Bloomquist and former Olympic bobsledder Bree Schaaf will be the speakers. Cost is $30, $25 for KAR members. It starts with a 6 p.m. social hour.
