New WIAA numbers in: Klahowya drops to 1ADecember 13th, 2013 by nathan joyce
The latest WIAA enrollment numbers are out, and they made an
impact on the West Sound sporting scene.
The biggest news: Klahowya, for the first time, dropped to the 1A classification. The Eagles have been a 2A team since they opened their doors in 1997. Klahowya dropping down opens the door for a possible 1A division of the Olympic with Chimacum and Port Townsend. Coupeville, Forks and Vashon have been mentioned as other possibilities.
Among the other news: Port Angeles and Bainbridge, which were on the bubble, are 2A schools (the Spartans are talking about opting-up to 3A). Bremerton successfully lobbied the WIAA to remain a 2A school. The first round of numbers had a higher enrollment total for the Knights, which AD Jeff Barton said were incorrect.
Here’s the latest numbers.
