Volleyball: Thursday recap, plus a lookahead

September 19th, 2013 by Annette Griffus

Now that most teams have a few games under their belts, it’s time to take a look at what’s happening around the West Sound volleyball scene.

On Thursday, the annual match-up between South Kitsap and Central Kitsap went in the Cougars favor after a thrilling 5-game match. CK won 3-2. Erin Kollars had 29 assists, Lexie Downey led with 12 kills for CK. South was led by the 16 kills from Hannah Spohn and Mikaela Strutz chipped in nine kills and 23 assists. The two teams will meet again Oct. 15 at SK.

Kingston upset Klahowya in an Olympic League match, winning 3-0. Other winners included North Kitsap beating Bremerton 3-0 , PA defeated North Mason 3-0 and Port Townsend beat Sequim 3-0.

Looking Ahead

Tuesday: Central Kitsap gets another good test when it faces Gig Harbor. CK and Gig will likely be battling it out all season as they vie for one of four playoff spots. … Blanchet will be on the island for a 6 p.m. game. The Braves and Spartans are more of a rivalry than Bainbridge/Holy Names, at least in terms of volleyball. It’s definitely HN/Bainbridge in softball. … In OL, Port Angeles travels to Poulsbo to take on NK. That’s been an entertaining match the last few years as both teams have been at or near the top of the standings.
