Former Oly coach Thoemke headed to Hall of Fame

West Sound has a couple more entrants in to the Washington Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Howard Thoemke will be honored at the induction ceremony on July 24.
Thoemke is going in as an assistant coach. He coached at Crescent (Joyce), Central Kitsap, North Kitsap and North Mason. Thoemke was also the head coach at Olympic. He was the coach when the Christian Welp-led Trojans won the AA title in 1983. That was the last Kitsap boys basketball team to win a state championship.
Former Sequim coach Larry Hill will also be inducted.
North Kitsap’s Jerry Parrish, a Hall of Fame football coach, will receive the Ed Pepple Service Award for his contributions to high school basketball. Parrish was a longtime official and announcer.

  1. Howie was also a tremendous high school player back in 1959 when both East and West Bremerton teams reached the top eight. He was recruited by WSU but could only play freshman ball in the rules back then.
    Congratulations to a deserving person.

  2. Coach Thoemke
