Port Townsend to remain in Olympic League through 2013-14
February 26th, 2013 by nathan joycePort Townsend will remain in the Olympic League through the
2013-14 academic year.
Port Townsend, the only Class 1A team in the 2A/1A Olympic League,
had hoped to leave for the 1A Nisqually League.
Typically, leagues are set for two years. When new enrollment
figures are announced every two years, schools can join other
leagues.
Port Townsend appealed to the West Central District and tried to
join the league first for basketball season, then for the spring
season and finally for next academic year.
A major reason for the change was to simplify Port Townsend’s path
to the postseason. Port Townsend had to finish a certain place in
the league standings to qualify. In past years, it was fifth place.
Now, the Redskins have to finish at least seventh place to earn a
Class 1A Tri-District play-in game against a Nisqually League
school.
