Bainbridge’s Grundman, Klahowya’s Crane earn district titles

Bainbridge senior Sarah Grundman won the 500-yard freestyle at the Class 3A SeaKing District 2 swimming championships Saturday.
Grundman won in 5 minutes, 1.92 seconds at Mary Wayte pool in Seattle. Grundman also set a school record in the event as teammates Kay Sterner and Candice Rosen finished third and fifth. Grundman is the defending state champ in the 500 free.

Shayla Archer placed second in the 100 backstroke, Ani Duni was second in the 100 breaststroke and diver Shannon Engelbrecht was also second.
The Spartans won the 200 medley and 400 free relays and finished second overall to Mercer Island.

Sophomore Kelsey Crane of Klahowya defended her Class 2A West Central District titles in the 500-yard freestyle and 200 individual medley Saturday at Hazen HS in Renton.

Crane won the 500 freestyle in 5:26.71 seconds and the 200 IM in 2:15.07. Crane is the defending state champion in the 500.
Port Angeles’ Tracie Macias also won two titles, the 200 free and 100 backstroke and teammate Ashlee Reid won the 100 freestyle.
North Kitsap freshman Serita Solis was second in the 100 freestyle. Kingston’s Katherine Andersen placed third in the 100 breaststroke and 200 free. Olympic’s 400 free relay team finished second to Port Angeles. PA won the team title.

The state meet is Friday and Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
