Volleyball update: League tournaments setOctober 20th, 2012 by Annette Griffus
As area volleyball teams finish the regular season next week, the Olympic League and Narrows League tournaments are set for next weekend.
Let’s take a look at the Class 2A Olympic League first.
The top five teams right now are Sequim, North Kitsap, Klahowya, Olympic and Port Angeles. All teams play Tuesday, but no matter what happens the standings won’t change based on tie-breaker rules.
So, Olympic and Port Angeles will play Thursday for the No. 5 seed to district at Olympic HS, with the loser earning the fifth seed. The winner of that match will play at 11 a.m. Saturday against Sequim in the main draw of the league tournament, which is being hosted by Sequim. North Kitsap will face Klahowya, also at 11 a.m. The losers of the Sequim and NK matches will play at 2 p.m. for the third-fourth seed. The winners will play for the No. 1 and 2 seeds to the West Central District tournament.
Moving on to the 4A Narrows League, it looks like South Kitsap and Central Kitsap could both finish with 5-7 records. SK takes on 6-2 Gig Harbor and CK plays 2-8 Stadium Tuesday. CK and SK split their season series so we’re going to be looking at some tiebreaker scenarios.
Regardless of who is the fourth or fifth seed, CK and SK will face each other in the NL tournament at noon, next Saturday at Mount Tahoma. That match is loser out. The winner would face the winner of the Gig Harbor vs. Stadium match at 2 p.m. for the third/fourth seed to the West Central/Southwest District tournament.
In 3A Metro League, 10th-ranked Bainbridge is the No. 1 seed from the Mountain Division and will face a yet-to-determined opponent next Saturday at 11 a.m. at Chief Sealth in the league semifinals. A win puts the Spartans into the SeaKing District tournament.
In 2B, Crosspoint Academy has a few games remaining in its Sea-Tac League schedule, but the Warriors are on track to earn the No. 2 seed into the Tri-District tournament.
All district tournaments are Nov. 3-4.
