We have your state swimming qualifiers right here

October 6th, 2012 by Annette Griffus

Here’s an updated list of local swimmers who have qualified for the state swimming and diving championships next month at KCAC in Federal Way.

The information is garnered from the Washington Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.

Liane Hirata is the only Class 4A individual swimmer to meet state times so far. Hirata, a senior at Central Kitsap, has qualified in the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 59.82 seconds) and 100 butterfly (1:00.72). The Cougars 200 free relay has the state’s top time — regardless of classification — in 1:42.36.

As I’ve come to expect, Bainbridge has multiple swimmers headed to state.

They are Geneva Levy (200 free, 1:58.47/500 free, 5:25.42); Kay Sterner (200 free, 1:58.97/500 free, 5:13.32), Mikelle Ackerley (200 free, 2:01.05/100 free, 55.85), Sarah Grundman (200 free, 2:01.43/200 IM, 2:16.42/500 free, 5:16.18), Shayla Archer (200 IM, 2:13.13/100 fly, 1:00.89/500 free, 5:23.55/100 back, 59.91), Natalie Ackerley (200 IM, 2:16.99), Anna Peirano (100 fly, 1:00.72), Candice Rosen (100 fly, 1:01.98/500 free, 5:23.03) and Ani Duni (100 breast, 1:10.82). The 200 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 free relay have also qualified. The 200 medley relay also has the fastest time in the Class 3A.

In 2A, Kelsey Crane leads the way with seven qualifying times. The sophomore and defending champion in the 500 freestyle is gunning for her second Ironman status. Crane is qualified in the 200 free (2:01.93, also leads classification), 200 IM (2:18.01), 100 fly (1:02.34), 100 free (57.39), 500 free (5:36.88), 100 back (1:05.22) and 100 breast (1:13.19).

Kingston’s Katherine Anderson will head to state in the 100 breast with a time of 1:13.19. Anderson joins Kevin Fox as the only other Buccaneer to qualify individually for the state meet.

Port Angeles’ Tracie Macias has also qualified in the 200 free (2:06.52), 100 back (1:03.91) and the Roughriders 200 medley relay and 400 free relay also made state times.
