Volleyball update: Bainbridge beats No. 1 Holy Names, coaches poll releasedSeptember 24th, 2012 by Annette Griffus
I know everyone’s attention is on the ending of the Seattle Seahawks-Green Bay Packers MNF game, but another stunning match played out on Bainbridge Island and I didn’t want it to go overlooked.
Bainbridge, ranked sixth in the first high school coaches poll of the season, toppled No. 1 Holy Names, 3-2, in a Metro League showdown.
Game scores went back and forth with the Spartans winning games 2, 4 and 5. Defense was key as Bainbridge had three players in double figures in digs.
The win sets up another great matchup for Wednesday, when Bainbridge hosts No. 4 Eastside Catholic in another Metro League Mountain Division match.
OK, so let’s take a look at the rest of the coaches poll. Bainbridge was the only West Sound team to make the poll in any classification.

Now, to lookahead to the rest of this week’s matches.
Tuesday: Olympic League play opens with Klahowya at North Kitsap — I can see that match having playoff implications down the road for both teams — Kingston is at Sequim, and Port Angeles travels to Olympic. Crosspoint takes on Chief Leschi in the Sea-Tac League.
Wednesday: South Kitsap is at Gig Harbor while Central Kitsap is at Stadium in Narrows League play, as well as the Eastside Catholic at Bainbridge match.
Thursday: The match that stands out the most to me is the Olympic at Kingston match as those two teams might be fighting each other for the final playoff spot in another month. The other games are pretty decent with Sequim at Klahowya, NK at NM and Port Townsend at Port Angeles. Also, Crosspoint takes on Bear Creek, which is ranked No. 3 in 2B.
