This week in volleyball
September 10th, 2012 by Annette GriffusThis week will be the first real test for area volleyball teams.
Olympic League play doesn’t start for a couple weeks yet, but OL teams will face each other in non-league action.
Here’s a look at some intriguing matches:
Tuesday
South Kitsap heads to Tacoma to face Stadium, which could go either way. Olympic hosts Sequim in a re-match of last year’s district playoff game that sent Olympic to state. Klahowya faces a tough road match against perennial league power Port Angeles.
Thursday
The annual match-up between South Kitsap and Central will be in Silverdale this time around. Kingston travels to Klahowya to take on the Eagles. That match could be interesting as both teams will meet for real later in the season with possible playoff implications on the line. Bremerton takes on North Kitsap in Poulsbo. An puzzling match up to be sure as NK is looking to rebuild — yet they are not completely starting over — and Bremerton should be much improved over last season.
Like I said, it’s early on the season and teams are still working on various lineups and getting prepared for the league season. The pace will pick up quickly enough, however, so stay tuned.

As a former volleyball coach from Klayhowa. I will miss coach Stevens from north mason. I met him several times and really enjoyed speaking with him. His touring height was scaring, I usually talked to him when he was sitting down. The volleyball court will miss you coach Stevens.
