The cheerleading offensive guardSeptember 5th, 2012 by nathan joyce
I wanted to write about this during the football preseason and
never got to it.
When I was working on the story for North Kitsap, I talked with guard Brandon Girkin, who was an All-Olympic League honorable mention last year.
Gerkin is a prototypical Wing-T guard. He’s not big, but he’s fast. He stands out in the Vikings offensive line as he’s listed at 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds.
The best part was talking to Girkin after practice. He practically vibrates from excessive energy. He seemed the type to be disappointed practice was over and he couldn’t hit anybody any more.
He told me also plays rugby and he’s also a cheerleader.
He does competitions with North Kitsap and is out there during basketball practice.
How’d he get into that?
“A bunch of girls asked me,” he said.
So of course you say yes.
“I have a lot of spirit, so why not?” he said. “It’s a lot of fun.”
