First Impression: CK should be fun to watch
August 24th, 2012 by jeff grahamCoach Mark Keel and the Cougars aren’t loaded with seniors and
their depth — there are 57 players on the team — may be a question
mark, but this is a team I think we’ll enjoy watching this
season.
The Cougars have a new offense — the pistol — for the third time in
five years, but that’s almost a misnomer. Keel said the team will
run the same plays this season they’ve run in the past, just out of
a different formation.
West Sound’s leading rusher last season Nick Zawadzki is back and
is in top shape. He’s a straight-ahead runner, but he’s got speed
and doesn’t hesitate hitting the hole. I wouldn’t be surprised if
he led the area in rushing yards again.
The key on offense might be the development of Cody LaFountaine,
the team’s senior quarterback. Keel said he possesses a good arm
and that the coaching staff is working on developing him as a
passer.
If LaFountaine, whose older brother Nick played quarterback for the
Cougars in 2002-04, can play at a high level, CK’s offense might
just take them to the playoffs for the fifth time in six years.
