Live Web Stream of CK Game Hits Complications
February 12th, 2010 by nathan joyceThanks to some technical difficulties at Stadium High, we are
unable to bring you tonight’s
live Web stream of Central Kitsap’s game vs. Foss in its
entirety. We are hoping to bring you the second half.
We’re unable to stream this game as Stadium High personnel refused
to let our crew plug in our equipment. We’re hoping we have enough
battery power to show you the second half.

Don’t make excuses for yourself, we sucked it up this year and I think you guys gave way too much coverage. The players all think the same thing, they were lucky to win 9 games any other year we would have won 4 or 5 games, it was a weak league. The problem is that the shelves at CK are pretty bare, only a couple of kids have a decent game. Transfer why you can!

The Kitsap Sun has a love affair with Central Kitsap. They get more coverage than anyone else, it is comical and very sad for the other area schools. The problem I have is with the school district in allowing kids to transfer (from Olympic & Klahowya and ever out of district Bremerton). Friends of our family told us the reason (excuse) they put down to avoid going to Olympic and lets just say it had something to do with sports. When you have the CKSD Superintendent sending his kid to Central Kitsap instead of Klahowya you have problems that start from the top.

What other game is the Sun supposed to cover? SK’s boys didn’t make the playoffs and the Olympic League is still in the regular season.
I like how fans of ONE team try to accuse newspapers that cover EVERYONE about being biased… That’s comical.

Wolfman,
Your kidding right? Your school has 2500 kids and your worried about CK? Kids do not transfer to CK for sports. They transfer to CK for academics. We are ranked nationally out of public schools and 6th in the state or have you forgotten. If there alterior motive is sports, then so be it. But they don’t go to the school district stating they want to come to CK to play sports.
Rather be in your shoes with 2500 kids rather than worrying about who is coming from Olympic or Klahowya to CK. Bremerton can not transfer into CK by the way. Not without holding out a year from sports. I’ve known plenty of kids that have moved to South just so they can play for them. One of your coaches lives down the street from me (In Silverdale) and his kid attends SK. So I’m not trying to hear all that garbage… Everybody does it to some degree (look at Skyline and read some of the stuff on some of their players… I think they took 2 from O’Dea last year and their quarterback Jake Heaps asked our star receiver to come and play for them also at some football passing league in las vegas last year.)
Lastly, The Kitsap Sun has had a love affair with South for the last 20 years. Your success do in large part and justifiably so. CK has had some success over the last few years and your crying? The only true love affair I’ve seen from the Kitsap Sun is with Bremerton and Olympic. Heck, half the stuff they’ve written on CK this year has brought bad publicity to the school… and unjustifiably so. One kids mistake should not turn your school into a bunch of thugs; although, I’ve seen people make dumb comments saying that we are.
I guess were educated thugs out here in Silverdale. Don’t believe me, then read the blurb below or go to the website… http://www.cksd.wednet.edu/News/PDF/CKHSNewsweek.pdf
Central Kitsap High School honored nationally for seventh time
SILVERDALE, Wash. – For the seventh time, Central Kitsap High School has earned a spot on Newsweek magazine’s annual list of the top-rated public high schools.
The school came in highly ranked at 323 of about 1,500 schools, which puts CKHS in the top two percent of all America’s public high schools.
“I attribute Central Kitsap High School’s continuing success to a very strong focus on student achievement and the caring, competent and professional manner in which staff members individually and collectively educate our students,” said Superintendent Greg Lynch. “On behalf of the District and our entire community, I thank the staff for making CKHS a wonderful place to learn and grow.”
Schools are ranked according to a ratio of the number of students who take Advanced Placement and similar tests, divided by the number of graduating seniors. All schools on the list have an index of at least 1.000; CKHS’s index of 2.51 was up from last year’s score of 2.41.
Of the state’s roughly 500 public high schools, only 31 made the list. CKHS was sixth in the state.
So you’ve got to come up with one better than that WOLFMAN!!!

From my vantage point, the Sun has published one short story this year about CK playing a player who’d pleaded guilty to a felony. What are these other stories that brought bad publicity? We’re certainly not above scrutiny, but if we’re being accused of something, I’d like specific examples.
Having written plenty of stories about CK in the three-plus years I’ve been at the paper, including about a dozen involving 2008 Kitsap Sun Player of the Year Howie McDonald (great kid by the way), I’d like to know how I’ve contributed to wronging the sports program there.

That one article has brought comments from readers that are not appreciated. I keep seeing comments now and again that say we are thugs. Don’t like that stuff. I feel like ck did not receive any love during football and that one event seemed to be the cause of it. It was not a fun season, and the way we were disrespected by some of the readers of your paper and the paper itself when having to do with the one incident made for a tough season. We were singled out and no one enjoys being singled out. All season it seemed to be about South (again), and Olympic. CK did make it back to state and everyone knows that CK starts off slow. Next year’s game vs South I heard is the last game of the season. Should be interesting with CK at full speed!

The slow start might have had something to do with it, although I know we staffed a bunch of CK games. I was at the heartbreaker against Kentwood and the lackluster loss against Gig Harbor.
I know no one here at the paper believes CK is a bunch of thugs. The one story we wrote about the crime came after we were notified by the offended party and we investigated in ourselves, including looking at arrest reports.
I’m sure other things have gone on at other schools that we don’t know about. That kind of stuff we don’t make a habit of seeking out, but if we’re alerted to it, we have to do our due diligence. Honestly, I wish we could all move on from it. It’s not like it was that terrible an offense.
If CK and SK is the last game, that’s good news. I wish more rival games were saved until the end of the season.
