You’ll Be Missed Luke Chadwick
August 26th, 2009 by nathan joyceA few years ago, when I was following the Bainbridge Spartans to the state title game, I met Luke Chadwick. Chadwick’s title was team manager, but his job seemed to entertain as much as manage.
As I followed the team in preparation to write a series on that season, Luke became a central figure. I wrote this about him.
I got a text message this weekend from former coach Scott Orness that Luke died over the weekend. I wish to extend my sympathies to his family.
Luke’s passing definitely underscores the fact that life isn’t fair. He survived a double lung transplant and had one healthy year before succumbing to pneumonia. That somebody could overcome so much and die when life was supposed to get easier is the true definition of a tragedy.
I count covering Bainbridge that season as one of my favorite assignments. Part of that was because of Luke, who made every game even more fun.
You’ll be missed Luke.

Thank you for remembering my dear nephew Luke Chadwick. The Chadwick family just finished a weekend honoring Luke which was capped off with “A Celebration of Luke Chadwick’s Life” at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church on September 6, 2009. Great stories about Luke were told, hugs were given, and tears were shed. As we left the church the rich evening light seemed to express that Luke will live on forever in our hearts and memories.
