So, What’s Going on With the Football Playoffs?
November 4th, 2008 by nathan joyceThe good news for Kitsap County is that four of its football
teams advanced to this weekend’s state preliminary round.
The bad news is that all four have to hit the road. Two of them
will play ranked teams.
In the Class 4A state preliminary round, South Kitsap has a revenge
game on the schedule. South (6-3) will play Skyview (7-2) on Friday
at Kiggins Bowl in Vancouver in 7:30 p.m.
Two years ago, the Wolves lost to the Storm 21-15 in a game they
had three muffed punts and four interceptions. Skyview claimed its
first state playoff appearance with the win.
South Kitsap is looking to return to the state tournament for the
second year in a row. SK, which had a state-record string of 23
straight state appearances snapped in 2003, went four years without
a state appearance.
Also looking to return to the state playoffs for the second
straight year is Central Kitsap.
The Cougars (6-3) will play at Snohomish on Saturday night at 7:30
p.m.
Last season, CK beat Puyallup to advance to state for the first
time since 1997. CK has never made the state tournament in
back-to-back years.
Snohomish (6-3) upset Lake Stevens 49-48 on Friday night to claim
the WesCo North Division’s second playoff spot and the right to
host CK. Snohomish won the game by stopping a two-point conversion
on the final snap of the game.
North Kitsap (7-2) is returning to the state preliminary round
after a two-year drought. This the first appearance in the Class 3A
state preliminary round as the Vikings dropped down from Class 4A
this year.
North Kitsap will play at Liberty (7-2), ranked ninth in the state
last week, on Friday at Renton’s Liberty Stadium.
The team that seemed the least likely to make the playoffs has the
toughest draw.
The Olympic Trojans (4-5) started the season 0-5 but claimed the
Olympic/Western League’s final playoff spot with a four-game
winning streak.
This is Oly’s first back-to-back playoff run since 1995-96.
Oly will play South Puget Sound Class 3A champ Lakes (9-0), ranked
third in the state last week, Friday at Harry Lang Stadium in
Lakewood at 7:30 p.m.
Kingston’s game at North Mason has been moved to Thursday at 7:30
p.m. to accommodate any possible tiebreaker scenarios for the Class
2A state playoffs.
North Mason (6-3) can wrap up the third and final playoff berth
from the Olympic/Nisqually League with a win. Sequim (7-2), which
hosts Fife, has earned the No. 2 seed into the opening round of the
Class 2A state playoffs next weekend.

If North Mason wins the Nisqually/Olympic No. 3 seed, they would host Interlake on Tuesday. My guess the game would be at either Bremerton Memorial or Silverdale Stadium.
