Volleyball Sub-District Set — Finally
October 30th, 2008 by Annette GriffusIt took one more match to determine who was going where, but the Class 3A subdistrict tournament is finally set.
Olympic held off a late rally by North Kitsap Thursday night to win, 3-2, and earned an automatic berth to the West Central District tournament at the Kitsap Sun Pavilion next week. For the Vikings, they are faced with a do-or-die match against North Thurston.
In the meantime, here are the matchups for the subdistrict tourney which is Nov. 5. All matches are at 7 p.m.
No. 1 WCL Capital (12-2) at No. 1 OL Olympic (11-4); No. 3 North Thurston (6-8) at No. 2 North Kitsap (11-4); No. 3 Port Angeles (4-8) at No. 2 Timberline (9-5).
The Capital/Olympic match is for seeding only from the now combined OWL into the district tourney. The No. 2 vs. No. 3 matches are both loser out.
In 4A, Central Kitsap lost a stunner to Stadium, 3-0, and now faces elimination Saturday morning at 9. South Kitsap, a 3-1 loser to Gig Harbor, also faces elimination Saturday. Both matches are at Mount Tahoma.
The 2A WCD tourney doesn’t begin until Nov. 8, also at the pavilion.

The Oly vs. NK volleyball match wasn’t even close. The only reason NK won game 3 is that Oly had trouble returning serves. In game 4 coach Peden had most of his starters out of the game.
Oly was attacking all the time and if they can get their serve receive down and #9 hits well they will get to state.
NK played like they were scared. They couldn’t pass and they hardly ever spike the ball. Oly must have played pretty bad in the first match to lose to them.

Well, I was at that game last night as well as the other two matches. All of Oly’s starters were in the game except when they were taken out due to their inability to pass. NK had the disadvantage of having to play at Oly which was supposed to be a nuetral place for this tie-breaker.
NK killed them in the fourth game and will be at districts and quite possible to state.
NK also has some of the top hitters and blockers in the district.

Fan,
You obviously watched a different match than I did.
Does it really matter where they played? There were as many NK fans at the game as Oly fans.
Best hitters and blockers in the DISTRICT? What? NK’s best hitter is a freshmen for heaven’s sake. What about Rainey who leads the Olympic League in kills and Senior players like Hills, Levig, and McBride who are also in District 3?
You need to go to bed earlier.

Well, the match was still suppossed to be played at a neutral playing site. Both teams obviously had their share of errors. thats right both teams. And North’s best hitter is not the freshman. She did not have a very good game. Megan Rainey is a fantastic hitter but pretty much all they go to.
See you at districts!

Fan,
Good coaches take full advantage of the players that they have and Olympic is doing just that. Let’s see, out of 3 matches your team won 5 games and OLY won 8- you NK folks just can’t accept the fact that you got BEAT by a better team.
As for who NK’s best hitter is who cares?

Wow Kramden,
You sound like a hard core Olympic fan. Taking this very personal. Lets just see what happens at Districts. Then you can talk.
