It’s an art exhibit! No, it’s a newsstand! Hey, it’s BOTH !!

Call to Artists
Proposals are now being accepted for “The First and Next 75 Years with News in Art,” a celebration of the Kitsap Sun’s 75th anniversary. The mission of prospective artists is to transform a Kitsap Sun newsstand vending machine into a functioning piece of art; 12 proposals will be selected, and the finished newsstands will be on display from July 15 to Aug. 1 at Collective Visions Art Gallery in Bremerton, then be placed into service throughout the Sun’s service area. Portion of sales from these newsstands will benefit designated nonprofit organizations through 2010. Selected artists will receive $100 each to offset material expense, and $1,200 prize money will be awarded. Send statement of interest, with contact information, rough sketch of concept and brief description, to Celebrating/News in Art, Kitsap Sun, 545 Fifth St., Bremerton, WA. 98337. Information: Mike Stevens, (360) 792-3350, mstevens@kitsapsun.com.

Yours (“I don’t know art but I know what I like!”) truly will serve as juror. All bribes accepted ’round back (just kidding) …

More later …  — MM
