CVG Show Selects 120 From 800 Entries

THIRD ANNUAL CVG SHOW to feature over 100 artworks

Over one hundred and twenty artworks by artists from across the state of Washington will be on view at the Collective Visions Gallery in the 2010  CVG Show during the month of February. The exhibition juror, Jake Seniuk, Director of the Port Angles Fine Art Center, selected the show from nearly 800 pieces in all art media that were entered into the competition.  In addition, he will choose the recipients of nearly $6,000 in prize money that will go to the winners of the1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes that will be awarded in each of three categories plus the $1500 “Mayor’s Award” for best of show.   The viewing public is invited to cast votes for the $300 “People’s Choice Award” during the first week of the 2010 CVG Show, which opens Tuesday, February 2.  Voting will continue through the evening “First Friday Art Walk” opening reception February 5, and conclude at 5 pm on Saturday, February 6.  Due to space limitations, the awards ceremony the evening of February 6 is by invitation only.  Award winners will be posted when the show opens at noon Sunday, February 7th.  The gallery will be open Sundays in February from 12 to 5 for the CVG Show.

The gallery will host a series of gallery talks and music designed to enhance the public’s appreciation and understanding of the broad array of art and ideas that is represented in this exhibition.   The following is a schedule of events.  All of these events, except the concert, are free to the public.

February 2 – 10 am – The 2010 CVG Show opens
February 2, 3, & 4, 10 – 5, Peoples’ Choice voting
February 5, 5 – 9 pm – First Friday Art Walk Opening Event
February 12, 7 pm – Lecture by O.C. Art Professor Marie Weichman, MFA
February 19, 7 pm – Gallery concert: Jami Sieber—Electric Cello, $15 -$18 February 26 at 7 pm – Panel Discussion:  Appreciating Contemporary Art

Jewel Box Sets Auditions for ‘Born Yesterday’

This from our friends at the Jewel Box Theatre:

The Jewel Box Theatre is conducting auditions for “Born Yesterday” from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 6 and 8 at the theater, 225 Iverson St. in Poulsbo.
Roles for “Born Yesterday” include four women and eight men ages 20-60.
“Born Yesterday” will be presented at the Jewel Box during the weekends from April 2 to 25. Performances will be 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.
“Born Yesterday” is a classic comedy by Garson Kanin and directed by Laurel Watt.
“Born Yesterday” is about the crooked businessman Harry Brock and his girlfriend, the charming, but dumb ex-chorus girl Billie. Her lack of social graces embarrasses even Harry, so he hires handsome, smart Paul Verrall to educate her. This comedy enjoyed one of the longest runs in history on Broadway.

Local Indian Eateries to Donate to Lakewood Officers’ Fund

Spice Route Cuisine of India on Bainbridge and Vashon islands, Gandhi Cuisine of India in Silverdale and Sumay Fine Indian Cuisine in Puyallup will donate 100 percent of their proceeds from Dec. 22 to the fund for families of the four slain Lakewood police officers.

It’s ‘Sounds of the Season’ Time at the Admiral

BREMERTON – The Admiral Theatre has selected 21 acts to perform in its 11th Annual “Sounds of the Season” Community Talent Competition at 7 p.m. Dec. 1.  Over 55 acts auditioned for the chance to compete for the Grand Prize and an opportunity to perform on the West Sound’s finest performing arts stage.  The evening show will include local singers, dancers, and musicians in a fast-paced variety show featuring Comedian/Juggler Greg Bennick from Seattle as Emcee.

This year’s performers/finalists include two groups from Port Orchard’s Just for Kicks School of Dance – Senior Allegro Musical Theatre and Just For Kicks Select; Bluegrass Band, Marilyn Kay & Co., of Poulsbo; song and dance acts by Erynn Hanson from Port Orchard; Aleasha Crestik-Johnson and Merriah Walsh of Silverdale; Paige Lawson of Gig Harbor; and Alyssa Melinger of Silverdale; The Tanaka Sisters Piano Ensemble, Byte of Bach of Poulsbo; Mya and Lucinda King, a piano duet from Silverdale; Julie, Carly and Rheanna, a vocal trio from Silverdale; pianist Brianna Eddy of Belfair; Bellydancer Ameera of Bainbridge Island; vocal duet, Nicole Eckert and Jacob Hutchins of Bremerton; dancer Tiffany Ogburn from Gig Harbor; Guitarist and Singer Bub Pratt of Bremerton; and solo vocalists Keonna Evans of Port Orchard; Amanda Habner of Poulsbo; Rene Warner of Bremerton; Hannah Yerex of Gig Harbor; Taylor Murphy of Silverdale; and Moneya Woods of Bremerton.

KCMT’s ‘Scrooge’ Cast Visits Barnes & Noble
