THEATER: WWCA Announces 2008-09 Season

Another local theater group checked in with its lineup of shows for the 2008-09 season. The nice folks at Western Washington Center for the Arts (WWCA) took time out from cranking up their production of "Little Shop of Horrors" (set for an Aug. 8 opening) to send us their list for next season

It includes:

"The Complete Works of Wm. Shakespeare (Abridged)," Sept. 26 to Oct. 26. This is the second revival of the ultra-wacky comedy, in which three actors condense all of Willie Shakes’ plays — and the odd sonnet here and there — into two pretty hilarious hours.

"The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," Nov. 21 to Dec. 14

"Company," Jan. 30 to March 1. It’s the first of three musicals on the bill of fare, and the first time I can remember this particular show on a West Sound stage. (Of course, I’m sort of a Johnny Come Lately, so don’t trust me.)

"Frog and Toad," performance dates to be announced; Theater for Young Audiences

"Fiddler on the Roof," April 24 to May 24.

I’m not sure if there’s a to-be-announced summer show, as with "Little Shop" this year, but I’ll update you when I find out.

And, since you asked, the leads for "Little Shop" are two of my favorite young musical theater actors of recent years, Kenneth Miller as Seymour and Emily Usher as Audrey. Also exciting to learn that Leslie Niemi will sing the role of Audrey II — a part that’s right in her vocal wheelhouse. Cain’t wait.

More later. — MM
