Second-in-Command From Chief’s Former Department

April 23rd, 2008 by josh farley

Looks like the Poulsbo Police Department‘s newly created post of deputy chief will go to Shawn Delaney, a police lieutenant from Visalia, California.

Sound familiar? He comes from the same department as Dennis Swiney, the Poulsbo department’s new chief.

According to a memo sent out to police department staff that Swiney shared with me, 17 candidates applied for the new position, which included current Poulsbo cops and out-of-area ones.

Delaney, who began his law enforcement career in 1984 as a patrol officer, has been a field training officer, investigator on Visalia’s burglary team, an administrative sergeant, part of the narcotics unit, and more.

Nice to see that Poulsbo’s new chief is getting a good start at building up his own good ‘ole boys NW precinct. I find it hard to believe that there were no qualified local candidates, especially internal applicants. How long before chief Swiney starts hiring his own relatives to fill positions?
