Political candidates: It’s that time almost

From June 6, a Monday, to Friday June 10 candidates for local offices will be filing with the Kitsap County Auditor’s office expressing their intentions to seek a seat on the dais, or some such place.

Most attention will be on city council races. The auditor’s press release follows.

Candidate filing begins June 6

PORT ORCHARD – The 2011 election season gets underway with the start of candidate filing in early June. Candidate filings are accepted for one week, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, June 6–Friday, June 10 at the Kitsap County Auditor – Elections Division, 619 Division St., Port Orchard, WA 98366.

Candidates may also submit their filings by mail beginning May 23.

All filing fees for salaried positions are due at the time of filing and are non-refundable. Filing fees are not charged for non-salaried positions.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to review the 2011 Candidate and Campaign Guidelines handbook available at the Auditor’s Office or online at www.kitsapgov.com/aud/ .

“Running for office is an important commitment,” Kitsap County Auditor Walt Washington said. “We provide several resources for candidates such as the guidelines handbook and elections staff who are always available to provide assistance.”

Offices and positions up for election this year include County Commissioner District 1, city council positions for Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, Port Orchard and Poulsbo, as well as numerous other junior taxing district positions throughout the county.
