Bremerton may be "within sight of Bainbridge Island", but politically they are worlds apart. Politically Braindead Island belongs to King County, and Bremerton is part of the Olympic Penninsula.

Rose,

You might be interested to know that in the Governor's proposed budget she is increasing staffing to the Puget Sound Partnership by 27% and increasing expenditure from the State General Fund to the Puget Sound Partnership a whopping 665%. In 2007-2009 the PSP received $999,999 from the General Fund. The Governor proposes increasing this to $7,652,000 in 2009-2011.

Also, today, the Peninsula Daily News is reporting Congress is making $80 Million available to the Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund, another cup in the sacred shell game of salmon recovery.

I know we aren't part of Kitsap County (yet, but the local Chamber seems to be leaning in that direction)...however, similar funds, about$160,000 are being given by state government, towards Salmon "enhancement or restoration".... for a study and plan to breach the theler wetlands area, to return it to its natural state!! 'Would that be a good thing', I wonder ?? As a nurse I am also wondering about the health of local people first, and salmon second. I am also concerned about what has already been invested to create what is there now; for the educational aspects, for tourism, the habitation of wild birds and other animals that we depend on Many studies are done for various projects in this state, that never come to fruition. In the Theler wetlands case, the money should go to fixing the North Shore road that experiences breaching by the tidelands every winter and washed out bridges.
I would like to add my "Thanks but NO THANKS as well" !!
