Tax Money Tossed into the Garbage

September 21st, 2009 by Steven Gardner

During the county commissioner meeting Monday morning, commissioners and staff went over possible slides for outreach to be taken during the budget process. The county wants to have a presentation handy to explain to residents where their money goes.

One slide had an illustration of money coming out of buckets, but a few in the room thought those didn’t look like buckets at all. This is why documents generally get edited before publication. If not, you could end up confirming your critics’ biggest complaint, in this case that tax money gets put into the garbage.

Posting this item here is probably why I’ll never get to see another draft document again. By the way, the “X” in the middle was mine. I put it there after they decided not to use this picture, so I drew the mark before my instincts to post it here kicked in.

I’m thinking we are going to see a lot of very plain pie charts in the coming months from the county commissioners. ROFL. I hope the person who made this blunder has a good sense of humor.

Sometimes the obvious isn’t as obvious as we’d like. ;-)
