Petro Bill Dies Quietly
April 26th, 2009 by Steven GardnerThe final bill I was watching was the one that would add a $1.50 fee to petroleum barrels for oil that’s used in products considered water polluters. Last I checked, it’s dying and is likely to stay dead. The story is going to be posted at some point, but isn’t up yet. I blogged about it here.
What happened politically was it failed to get 12 signatures from members of the Senate Ways & Means Committee, which he needed to get the matter voted on the Senate floor.
It’s not the only bill to die that kind of death. All day long we’ve been hearing about a dispute over 5840. Pierce County representatives didn’t like one of the elements dealing with hydro power and threatened to hold other bills hostage in response. No deal was reached. The hostages were released. Joe Turner kind of explains it here and really explains it here on his blog.
I’ve decided to stick around until “Sine Die,” largely for my own education, but also in case there’s something worth reporting in the wee hours.
Speaking of Joe Turner, he posted a list of quotes from the session, compiled by state Rep. Jeannie Darneille, D-Tacoma. A must read. Go on now.

Sounds like they were all as punchy as could be.
