Olympia’s Deadline Looms and We’re Here to Watch

April 24th, 2009 by Steven Gardner

We’re blogging from Olympia this weekend, following the progress of legislative debates going on, particularly on local issues.

When I left this afternoon debate on the operating budget was scheduled for 4 p.m. I arrived here at 6 p.m. and found out the debate is now scheduled for 7 p.m. That’s if they don’t break for dinner, which I have some reason to believe they won’t.

This could be the first wrench I’ve heard in any discussions about whether they’ll end on time, Sunday at midnight. Every day the Legislature is in session, it costs money, so they say they want out on time. Given the lopsidedness of the chamber, that should happen. Transportation gets debated tomorrow. Capital is out, I hear, but I’ve yet to take a close look at Kitsap projects that were on the bubble.

More as it develops . . .

Both the operations budget and capital budget passed this evening. Capital budget passed at 11:48 p.m.
