Capital Saves — UPDATED

April 24th, 2009 by Steven Gardner

On April 1 we had a story about what was in the state’s capital budget and what Kitsap projects were on the bubble.

There were seven projects that were in one chamber’s budget, but not the other. Four of those survived, based on my read of the budget document. They are:

  • Poulsbo Marine Science Center – $500,000
  • West Sound Teen Center (Bremerton) – $305,000
  • Naval Avenue Boys and Girls Club – $80,000
  • Admiral Theatre – $140,000

The ones I don’t see, but don’t want to categorically rule out for having perhaps been funded elsewhere:

  • Olympic College construction money – $500,000 (Actually, see the note at the bottom.)
  • Kitsap Memorial State Park – $177,000
  • Evergreen Rotary Park (Bremerton) $500,000
  • Expenditures that were in both budgets all survived. They are:

  • Silverdale YMCA – $800,000
  • Girl Scout Center (East Bremerton) – $205,000
  • Olympic College’s Sophia Bremer Child Development Center construction – $2 million
  • Kitsap Mental Health Keller Center – $600,000
  • Discovery Kids Museum (Bainbridge Island) – $250,000
  • I just received word of other capital budget saves. I didn’t have them in the original story, because I wasn’t certain I had all the park projects. These extras are only for the 23rd District, and I don’t have amounts:

  • Fay Bainbridge Lower Park Restroom
  • Fort Ward Hazardous Materials Assessment
  • Illahee State Park Wastewater Treatment Upgrade
  • Bremerton (Natural Areas Facilities Preservation and Access)
  • Olympic College also received four other funding line items that might mean the $500,000 I indicated had not made it into the budget did indeed make it. that totaled just under $1.3 million.
