How Corrupt Are We?

In light of the scandal involving
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Politico has a story attempting to
study why Illinois is so corrupt.
It certainly seems like Illinois has a particular sweet spot for corruption: Blagojevich’s own predecessor as governor, George Ryan, went to jail in 2007 in a 6-1/2 year sentence for corruption of his own.
Illinois is not the worst offender, however. If you go to page 4 of the story, you’ll see a list of the country’s 35 most populous states ranked in order of corruption. Oregon comes out the least corrupt. Washington fares comparatively well, too, coming in 30th. The most corrupt is Louisiana.
USA Today does include the 15 states not part of the study cited in Politico and North Dakota knocks Louisiana off its lofty perch.

We are supposed to believe that Obama never talked to the governor of his home state. Just like he never listened to the sermons at the church he attended.
